Regular events for the Aberfoyle & District Lions Club.
- Meetings: The 1st (Business meeting) and 3rd (Social meeting) Wednesday of every month, business meetings usually held at the Aberfoyle Community Centre from 6:30 pm, Social meetings are usually at the Marion Club from 6:30 (with partners), a guest speaker and catch-up occasion.
- Reservoir BBQ: First Saturday of every month, look for the huge Lions marquee in the carpark.
- Bookshed: At Byards Road Reynella East, with a great select of over 10,000 books on offer, ranging in price from $5 to $10 mostly, kids books even cheaper. Open every Friday and Saturday from 8:30am until 1:00pm. A large Sci-fi collection, popular authors, all easily found in the well organised displays. A new shed will be built by the Onkaparinga Council on-site before June 2027 and make it even better 🙂
- Roadside clean up: Happy Valley drive the second Saturday of every month, look for the “Warning: Lions on Road” sign 🙂
- Bunnings BBQ – of course, every few months Bunnings are kind enough to give us access to their BBQ facilities for us to fundraise. Always a fun event and a good source of funds for our community services.
- Santa Sleigh: One of the most joyous projects, we have been driving around Flagstaff Hill, Aberfoyle Park and surrounds for the last 35 Christmas’s with Santa on board handing out free lollies for the kids, allowing Santa pics for everyone (free) and spreading cheer as we sell our beloved Lions Christmas cakes and puddings.Â
- Christmas cakes: Another fundraiser for the Club, available from the Santa Sleigh or many shops in the area, keep an eye out for them please, always popular. We need about 6 volunteers every 3 nights a week for 6 weeks to make this happen.
- Santa: our very own Santa has been known to turn up to a variety of family days, including LionHeart Learning, CFS Blackwood family Day, kindergartens, Meals On Wheels deliveries, and street displays for locals. Just spreading the cheer 🙂Â
